Modifiers never reach the firmware. The real keypad resolves them and sends one finished character; the on-screen keyboard does the same.

tags

A tag is a crew member with one button and a buzzer instead of a screen and keyboard (a credit-card tracker). On the stage it is a square; on the wall it is a card. Its card in the device panel has the button: press with the mouse or touch, or focus the card and hold space. The ring counts the hold in the device's own time.

pressin a crew: "Come to me" to the crew, plus a beacon now. With no crew: opens a 60 s claim window; crew members see it as wants to join
hold 3 s"Need help, come to me" to the crew (the tag chirps at 3 s so you know when to let go)
hold 8 sforget the crew (a low tone at 8 s)
joiningpress the tag, then on any crew member's M9: crew tab → the tag → enter → enter. The M9 sends the crew passphrase to the tag as a direct message encrypted to the tag's own key; the tag accepts it only while its window is open
pingingon any crew member's peer screen (crew tab → the person → enter): enter pings them. A tag chirps for a few seconds and lights its LED, so it can be found by ear
setup · jan M9 can join by invite too: opens its own 60 s claim window
the LEDa green flash on every beacon, a slow blink while claiming, on while pinged
cadencea beacon every 15 s while the accelerometer says the tag is carried, every 2 min when it lies still, with the GPS asleep between beacons
